86212 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
Non-destructive testing for metals, glass, ceramics, and plastics
Measures material thickness from 0.8 to 350 mm with up to 0.001 mm resolution
Two measurement modes: QC Mode / Statistics Mode
Compatible with four types of probes for various materials
Selectable Automatic Gain for optimal performance
The 86212 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is user-friendly and utilizes ultrasonic pulse reflection to measure material thickness accurately. It supports four probe types—standard, micro-diameter, coarse crystal, and high-temperature—making it ideal for metals (steel, aluminum, copper, etc.), plastics, ceramics, glass, fiberglass, and other ultrasonic-conductive materials. Featuring a precision timing chip, the device delivers a resolution as fine as 0.001 mm.
In many industries, monitoring wall thickness is crucial to ensure equipment reliability and structural safety. The 86212 gauge is widely applicable for inspecting ships, tanks, pipelines, and steel structures to determine whether maintenance or replacement is needed. It is suitable for petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, shipbuilding, aviation, and aerospace sectors.

Features
Ultrasonic dual-element probe
The probe features a dual-element transducer with two independent crystals separated by an acoustic barrier—one transmits ultrasonic pulses while the other receives them. This design ensures high sensitivity and minimizes noise. Encased in durable stainless steel, the probe is built to last.

Four compatible probes with intelligent identification
The device automatically recognizes the connected probe type—standard, micro-diameter, coarse crystal, or high-temperature—and adjusts the display interface accordingly for optimal measurement.

Selectable Automatic Gain
While some materials conduct sound waves efficiently, others do not. For those less efficient materials, the gauge offers adjustable Gain to amplify the ultrasonic signal. This ensures the transducer accurately detects the reflected pulse during propagation, delivering precise measurement results.

Precision timing chip for fast, accurate measurements
By calculating material thickness based on sound velocity and echo timing, the advanced timing chip ensures fast, reliable measurements.
High precision and resolution
With an accuracy of ±0.05 mm, the device meets national metrology standards. For materials between 0.8 mm and 10 mm thick, the resolution reaches 0.001 mm.
Wide material compatibility
The gauge can measure metallic materials (steel, iron, aluminum, copper) and non-metals (ceramics, plastics, glass), provided the opposite surface is parallel or coaxial to the tested surface. For curved surfaces, ensure the probe is perpendicular to the axis.

Coating penetration measurement mode
When coatings or paint layers are present, the standard probe can accurately measure the substrate thickness without removing the coating, ensuring reliable results.
Bluetooth app connectivity
The integrated Bluetooth module allows connection to a smartphone app for storing multiple datasets and sharing measurement results.

QC Mode and Statistics Mode
QC Mode lets users set upper and lower limits, automatically identifying areas as PASS or NG. Statistics Mode records maximum, minimum, and average values for comprehensive data analysis.

Built-in sound velocities for multiple materials
Preloaded with sound velocities of common metals (iron, copper, aluminum) and non-metals (plastics, ceramics, plexiglass), saving users time during setup.
999-record data storage capacity
Store up to 999 test results in the device for convenient review anytime.
Customizable sound velocity storage
Users can save sound velocities for up to 18 materials. Both the “Set by thickness” and “Manual input” menus store 9 velocities each, which can be edited and saved as needed.
